Report unsafe work in the NT: NT WorkSafe concerns

Short answer

In the NT, NT WorkSafe asks that the business hears about a concern and gets the chance to fix it before you contact the regulator. Then there is an online form, and a phone number for an immediate risk. NT WorkSafe allows an anonymous report, but then it can’t come back to you.

Start on site

NT WorkSafe is plain about the order. The business should be made aware of the concern and given the chance to resolve it. For a worker that means your supervisor or manager, or the workplace’s hazard reporting system, and also your health and safety representative or union representative. On a remote job with a small crew, a clear record of what you told them and when matters.

Going to NT WorkSafe

If the business hasn’t fixed it, or telling them isn’t practical, NT WorkSafe has an online form and a downloadable one. It asks for the exact nature of the concern and the address and spot on the site. It also asks who is in control of the workplace, and for evidence such as photos or video. If someone is at immediate risk, ring the number in the table instead of filling in a form.

Your name and what happens to it

Names are handled in two ways. NT WorkSafe says it won’t intentionally reveal who raised a concern unless you consent, with limits depending on the concern. NT WorkSafe also allows an anonymous report, but then the regulator can’t contact you to clarify. Pick one on purpose, so nobody is guessing later.

When someone has been hurt

A concern is not an incident. For a death, a serious injury or a dangerous incident, NT WorkSafe has the notification pages. Our NT notifiable incidents page has the steps. For the advice line number, see the table on that page.

Where Haznote fits

Haznote works with no signal and sends the report when the phone is back in coverage, which fits long drives to remote sites. The photo and location come with it. The manager confirms the record. Haznote doesn’t lodge a concern with NT WorkSafe. Anonymous reports are a site setting, off by default, best-effort.
