A confidential reporting channel for health and safety reps
Short answer
Some problems cannot be raised with the person who is part of them. Haznote has a confidential channel: a worker marks a report confidential and it goes to the company’s confidential contact, not to site managers. As a health and safety representative you can point people to it, and a worker can show you their time-stamped record.

Start with the confidential channel
A representative is often the person a worker goes to when they can’t go to the site manager. Bullying. Pressure to skip a step. A supervisor who is the problem. The worker needs somewhere to put it that doesn’t run through that person.
In Haznote a worker can mark a report confidential. It goes to the company’s confidential contact: an appointed Representative if the company has one, otherwise an Admin. It doesn’t appear in the site manager’s queue, and it has its own PDF with a strictly confidential watermark. Where the site allows anonymous reports, a worker can also send one anonymously. That’s best-effort, because voice and photos can identify them.
That contact isn’t the same thing as an elected health and safety representative. In Haznote an appointed Representative is someone the company names for this purpose, and the company chooses who. Ask your Admin who holds that role.
Where this meets your powers
The law gives a representative tools, and each state’s regulator describes them. The rows below quote WorkSafe Queensland on the PIN and on the cease-work provisions. The wording is the regulator’s. The Act and the training rules in your own state apply to you.
If you decide to use them, a written record helps. A report with a timestamp, the worker’s own words and photos shows what was raised, when, and whether anything changed afterwards.
What it does not do
- It doesn’t make you a recipient of confidential reports. Those go to the company’s confidential contact
- It doesn’t issue a PIN or a stop-work direction. Those stay yours
- It isn’t legal advice, and it doesn’t replace consultation

Plain answers.
Who sees a confidential report?
The company’s confidential contact: an appointed Representative if there is one, otherwise an Admin. Site managers do not see it in their queue.
Can a worker report without a name?
If the site allows anonymous reports, yes. That is best-effort, because voice, photos and the circumstances can still identify them.
Does Haznote replace a PIN?
No. A PIN is a written direction from a representative. Haznote can hold the record of what was raised before it.
